Angry First logging in OK and then boot problem (VAIO Laptop)

Hi all,
I hope someone can help me about my booting problems...
I've installed Opensuse 11.0 a few days ago from the DVD, on a recent Sony VAIO laptop (dual boot with WinXP on a first partition).
Everything was going fine and I succeeded to log in but after the first reboot the procedure stops with the following message : "Waiting for device /dev/disk/by-id/..... to appear"
It seems that root partition is not found; I've verified the content of '/boot/grub/menu.lst' & '/etc/fstab' and it seems to be OK.
I wonder if the problem is the result of a wrong HDD controller ...?
How can I identify the cause of this problem ??
Thanks in advance for any help !

Do you remember where the boot-loader was installed? (MBR, /boot, etc)

Also, check this post here. It has to do with openSUSE 10.3 but it may help you.

Also, please post back even if it works so future searchers can get info. I say this because the OP on the link I gave did not do this and it is unclear if he got the problem solved or how he did.

Thanks

Thank you CRC123
My boot loader is in /boot/grub/ and I've already tried to solve the problem following the recommendations of the post you mentioned...
The problem is not fixed.

Try installing the boot loader to the MBR. Since you have a dual boot system, I'm guessing Windows is the first partition. Some BIOS' can only load boot loaders that are located close to the beginning of the drive. If your linux partition is after the windows one, it is likely your boot loader is unreachable by the BIOS.

No more success :-(
I completely reinstalled the computer after removing my Windows recovery partition near the MBR. Grub seems to work as I get the graphical menu where I can select the Opensuse entry. Then the process stops... the root partition is not found (Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/...).
Is this issue related to my BIOS version ??
