Problems with the installation of OpenSUSE 11.0 Live/CD installation
Hello
I had an old computer (pIII) which I almost tossed out but decided to give OpenSUSE a try. I got an OpenSUSE 10.3 cd from Cheapbytes which I loaded and am running without too many problems, but I decided to give OpenSUSE 11.00 a try. This old box does not have a dvd drive (just an old cd drive) so I downloaded from OpenSUSE, the LiveCD/install iso(s)- both the Gnome and the KDE versions and found that on either of these iso's, when I booted from the CD, the start menu did NOT have an installation option. I tried to run from the OpenSUSE 11.0 option as well as the failsafe option nut the install (?) crapped out at the hal daemon X config. It almost looks as if they have the wrong startmenu package on these ISO(s). I signed up for the opensuse mailing list and asked the question as to what to do next, but have received no suggestions so far.

Rep:
If you run a LIve CD mostly it gives impression of the OS
When it is in the air on the desktop you find a icon to install the OS
When you click on this icon it gives the install options
You only need one cd KDE or GNOme
After install you always can ad a GUI

Thanks for your response. Not sure what you mean by being in the "air", when I boot from the gnome or kde cd i do not get an install option as the program from the cd takes over the entire desktop. There is no icon or option which says or implies Installation.
I am obviously missing something here. Will try it again.
In addition to selecting the "failsafe" option. ALSO hit pf3 and select VESA.
Since its an old pc and it is the xserver thats "crapping" out, I am guessing that the problem is with the video driver.
VESA will tell it to use a generic driver.
