You may find some useful information about asking questions here
In the mean time, perhaps the path to enlightenment begins here

If the linux partition you want to shrink is the rootpartition (/) you cannot do this from a running system. What you need is a Linux distro that runs from CD (e.g. KNOPPIX). There you have all tool for resizing available.

BTW: There is a tool in MS XP that will allow you to delete partitions. I think you right-click on "My Computer", and go to Manage. I think it should be somewhere under disks.

Be sure your boot-loader is on MS first, though.

A root console is a command line interface where you are logged in as root. There should be a special option like this in some menu (most probably the 'root shell') when you do this in KNOPPIX, since you do not have passwords.

Open a console and type sudo su to become root, exit with ctrl-d, or find an item in the knoppix menu called "Root shell".
If you're going to touch the swap partition you need to either use the noswap cheatcode at the boot: prompt or or open a root console and do swapoff /dev/hd?? where ?? is your swap partition.

These all mean basically the same thing: xterm, terminal, shell, console, commandline.

On a similar topic... they say eskimos have about 20-30 different words for snow.
