Whats the diference between this and the Live Eval bellow? Also what does Eval mean? Does it stop working after some time or?..

And there are slight version differences in some packages, as well as some missing packages. But as with 9.1, it is always possible to update these package via internet (this is probably not what you wanted to hear, after your struggles with 9.1 and internet update

Heh well I'm downloading it now. Lets hope the 9.2 internet update is better then the 9.1. Otherwise I'm going to do something nasty with my SuSE 9.1 box..

Are you saying that the Eval version DOES NOT EXPIRE? I have downloaded Novell Desktop Eval and it expires after 30 days. If SuSE Pro 9.2 does not expire, meaning the end user can keep installed and it will continue to work, then this is great.

Now you made me curious. I checked what I have downloaded recently and it says nothing about Evaluation, just FTP-DVD:

Here is what it says in the readme:

You have the choice:

1) If you have a DVD burner, you can download the file
   SUSE-Linux-9.2-FTP-DVD.iso (the file's exact size is 3363543040 Bytes!)
   and burn it on a DVD to boot and install from it, just like you would
   do with a DVD from a SUSE Linux 9.2 box edition.

2) If you have a CDR/RW burner, you may want to download the file
   SUSE-Linux-9.2-mini-installation.iso (size: exactly 67336192 bytes),
   burn it on a CD and boot from it to start the installation of the SUSE
   Linux 9.2 FTP version. The advantage over option 1) is clear: You only
   download the packages that you need:  From the total of 3GB of the 
   DVD image you might only need 1GB for your desired selection of 
   packages to install.

Also, consult the README file in the 9.2/boot directory (same level as this
"iso" directory).

Please verify the integrity of the downloaded file(s) using the md5sum 
command.

OK then I guess it doesn't expire!

I have one more question. I don't see any indication on the SuSE server or none of the mirrors indicating that the SuSE 9.2 download is for Professional version. It appears to me that the download, whether DVD or "mini-install", is for 9.2 Personal. For those that have downloaded and installed 9.2 are you certain it is Professional version.

The SUSE Personal Edition, as we know it from 9.1, does not exist anymore. What you get when you download the DVD-ISO is 'almost' a professional version, especially if you combine it with the regular FTP source. Usually, SUSE takes away some commercial packages in the FTP version that are coming with the boxed version. But to my knowledge, these are minor differences.

I do not miss any crucial packages, but I have added the FTP server to my installation sources, so I cannot distunguish between DVD and FTP anymore.

Well I'll be darn! Then I have Professional 9.2 already installed. I had DVD Personal 9.1 and installed it. Then used YaST to upgrade to 9.2. The upgrade took hours and was successful. If Personal does not exist beyond 9.1 then I have the Professional version (correct?). I still would like to have the DVD for 9.2 in case I need to re-install;so, all I need to do is download the Eval (it will not expire...correct?).

No! You now created 9.2 Personal

Let me explain: the only difference between the Pro and Personal version is the amount of available software packages. You could always make a Pro out of a Personal by installing packages directly from the FTP server. But if you didn't do that, Yast has now updated all previously installed packages from your 9.1 installation. Nothing less and nothing more. So if you had 9.1 Personal before, you have 9.2 Personal now

But that's just a name...there is only 'SUSE Linux 9.2' out there

OK is it possible to obtain 9.2 Professional when you have 9.1 Personal DVD this way:

1) Install 9.1 DVD

2) After successful installation, re-insert the DVD

3) This time select Upgrade instead of New Installation

Will that install 9.2 Professional? Or do I just need to download Eval and stop trying to find a short-cut.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to do there. You want 9.2 Pro?

Add the SuSE-FTP server to your installation sources (Change Source of Installation) and you have it. Whenever you want to install a package from the Pro package, it will be available through internet.

Or, alternatively download the above mentioned ISO and add this to your installation sources. Same thing, other source.

Just installed it this morning and its running great. Really like the new KDE, didn't try out gnome yet.
