Maybe this is interesting for everybody who expects a huge performance gain from the patch.

Thanks, interesting, I don't quite understand what this patch is about, but it doesn't seem to be something that will make as huge a difference as they make it seem.

So by "terminal", that can also mean a pseudo-terminal (i.e. an X terminal), right? So one could run a video transcode with ffmpeg in an X terminal, and expect to be able to smoothly navigate their desktop? Or a kernel/program compile?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, "do you need to actually switch out of X and run something in a 'real' TTY for this patch to mean anything?".

In the Phoronix video all processes were started from X-terminals, if I got that right. But I think switching out of X and doing a compile-job in the 'real' terminal and the switching back to X will also work.
