While I have a lot of respect for gnome, there's just a nice look about KDE, and it has no applications bar perhaps kopete which fall behind there gnome counterpart a great deal. Even then, third party software like amsn can solve problems. I just suppose it could have a bit more stability... like kdevelop not segfaulting on exit
What's more there are kde apps miles ahead of their gnome counterparts. k3b, anyone?
I've got both. Installed Ubuntu, then put the kubuntu cd in and used it as a repository. I'll be honest, guys...with both on my box now, I like to switch back and forth, and they are cleaner to switch between than Suse, which I used to use, and some of the other distros.
I think a lot of us are like that. Some of the Gnome parts are mighty sweet. So are some of the KDE things.
Humm...I used to use SUSE with KDE, but thought that I would give this GNOME thingy a try. Now I think I am hooked, I really like it, and am learning new stuff about it all the time.

I used to be a KDE zealot but since using GNOME in Ubuntu I've converted. The brown really isn't that bad. As for Kubuntu, I know I should but I don't like the fact that you can't login as root and that's easier to change in Ubuntu.

I fixed mine so as to log in as ROOT - but I'm so used to SUDO now that I never use it! Go figure....
I've tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu seperately but the setup i prefer is to have both installed and run a KDE desktop. I just prefer KDE, it looks better, the icons don't fill the screen as they do with Gnome and i do like Koffice (openoffice doesn't print!).
I have both installed because they each have software i use (i know i could install Gnome based software on KDE but can't be bothered messing with dependencies e.t.c. when i can just have everything installed). I prefer Anjuta for development over Kdevelop and Kynaptic is hopeless compared to Psynaptic but Konqueror is great and so is K3B so just have both if you have the H/D space.
By the way, anyone know how to setup the shutdown to give options, i.e. reboot, shutdown e.t.c. all i get is end session even though i've ticked the box to offer shutdown options in login manager!
2 of your choices are redundant. ubuntu+kde is the same thing as kubuntu.
from the kubuntu.org website on how to get kubuntu: "Existing Ubuntu users can install Kubuntu with the kubuntu-desktop package."
so if you like gnome go with ubuntu, if you like kde, kubuntu.
i agree with an earlier post, why two releases? why not have a choice when you install on which desktop to use? a lot of other distros do this, including slackware.
anyway, for my answer it is is kubuntu, dont like gnome, never have, never will
I used to love KDE, tried and hated Gnome, and finally switched to xfce, which I like best of all. I had to get used to the lack of desktop icons, but it wasn't difficult and the system feel nice and snappy. I also don't feel like I'm running a bunch of crap I don't need.
