Support for usbdevfs

Hey, I can't seem to get usbdevfs working. I recompiled the kernel with the option:
Preliminary USB Device Filesystem [Y]
(do I need any others?), and I get the error that /proc/bus/usb does not exist, which is where I'm trying to mount the filesystem. Don't know why that doesn't exist, so I created /usb, and edited fstab to mount it there. Now it says the kernel doesn't have support for usbdevfs. Weird, are there any other options I need to enable? Anyone know what I've done wrong?

lets start with the basics: did you reload the kernel?
in addition to usbdevfs support, you need to have proc file system support enabled
also, you should probably stick with using /prob/bus/usb for the mount point. I don't know of anything that depends on it, but something might expect to look there rather than /usb

gents, I do not wish to trouble either one of you but I was wondering where I can find this 'basic' information on mounting the usb key drive that I have.

thank you,

you can start with http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/book1.html
depending on how much background you have, there may be a few other things you need to setup first
