usbdevfs: remount parameter error

this is what i find in the "dmesg" log. or at least, that's the line i think is relevant to my problem.

my printer has stopped functioning.

details:
Epson Stylus Color 580
using usb device
os: mandrake 9.2
samba on local network [pc (linux) + laptop (win98)]
printing system: cups

[what else should i put here?]

i would also post the dmesg log, but it seems too long and wouldn't want to be a pain...

i have tried unplugging and plugging back again the printer usb cable and rebooting. nothing doing.
i have tried stopping samba on reboot, nothing doing.
message from the cups admin:
"Unable to open USB device "usb://EPSON/Stylus%20COLOR%20580": No such device"

i've searched the net and this and other forums for an answer, but nothing works, and i have found nothing close to similar to my problem.
i must also say that i'm a newbie and far from expert in linux.
and i am getting desperate.

any other information i should provide to make my problem clearer???

thanks in advance...
marina
