mandrake 8.1 - inoperative mouse

I've recently installed mandrake8.1 , (and re-installled from two different distributions) , to a 4gb disk partition on my 15gb drive.

All installations went well, specifically the mouse recognition & testing configuration stages. I've tried installing my mouse as a ps/2 wheel mouse & the generic two button mouse during the various installations.

In every case when linux reboots, I'm not able to use the mouse. The cursor is locked dead in the middle of the screen. I've tried keyboarding around to the configuration - mouse section in linux, without any luck.

Is this is some dumb newbie overlook or something else tha's easy to resolve.

Please help.

My system configuration, (as best as I can gather), follows;
